Job Overview
We are currently seeking a Civil Engineer to join our Substation team in our Rochester, NY office. The Civil Engineer will be in charge of electric substation design projects for low, medium and high voltage Power Utility Projects, using all applicable codes and standards. In addition, The Civil Engineer will be working in a multi-cultural fast-paced environment on multiple projects, responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers. Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members. Serves as a technical specialist for Civil Substation Design and provides knowledge and skillset to provide consultation and guidance to project teams.

Responsibilities

• Detail design for: steel structure and concrete foundation associated with long lead equipment in a substation (Power Transformer, breakers, switches, surge arrestors, etc.), rigid and strain bus configurations, foundations layout, oil containment, firewall, substation grading, general arrangement, site plans, elevations, drainage, trenches and all associated bill of materials. In addition, The Civil Engineer will assist in the creation of conduit and grounding plan design.

Qualifications

• Proven record working with Power Utility clients. Will be self-motivated, and possess a strong client focus.
• The ability to communicate effectively using oral, graphic, and written forms is critical for success in this position.
• Ability to coordinate efforts with other team members electrical engineers, facilities engineer, transmission line engineers, distribution line engineers, geotechnical engineers, and surveyors.
• Minimum requirements include a BS in Civil Engineering with 3 to 15 years of experience related to civil substation design.
• A PE license is not a requirement, but is preferred.
• Experience with AutoCAD/Civil 3D / Microstation/STAAD/PLSCAD/LPILE.
• Strong familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code
• Clear understanding of local and state permitting requirements. Understanding of standard practices for erosion and sediment control as well as stormwater management
